General Rules and Conditions for our Shows

1.  Entries
It would be appreciated if entries could be made at the earliest opportunity in order that much of the paperwork can be completed before the show. Two days before the show would be a great help.  Late entries will only be accepted at the discretion of the Show Secretary

2.  Entry fees

                    Non members - 35p

3.  Staging and Judging of Exhibits
     Spring Show -                                                           6.00 – 7.45pm Tuesday  April 7th
     Fuchsia & Pelargonium Show -                               8.15 - 10.30am Saturday  August 8th
     Chrysanthemum, Dahlia & Vegetable Show -        6.00 – 7.45pm Tuesday  September 22nd
     Late Chrysanthemum & Horticultural Show -        6.00 – 7.45pm Tuesday  November 10th
Judging commences as staging finishes

4.   A novice is a person who has never won the novice or intermediate award for that type of flower. (see Rule 17)

5.  The judging will accord with the rules of the RHS, NCS, NDS, PAGS and BFS except where stated otherwise.

6.  Joint named entries will be accepted from the same household in open classes.

7.  Exhibits must be grown by the exhibitor and each exhibitor may enter two exhibits in each class, except for classes 7&12 Spring Show and all classes in the Fuchsia & Pelargonium Show, provided that they are different cultivars.  A class card will be supplied for each entry which must be placed face downwards in front of the exhibit.

8.  Cultivars to be named where known. Exhibits must not be removed until the close of the show. Awards will be presented at 4.00pm for afternoon shows and 9.00pm for evening

9.  The society cannot accept responsibility for any loss of/or damage to any exhibit.

10.  Points unless otherwise stated for special classes:

                           1st – 5 points          2nd - 3 points        3rd -  2 points 
   A bonus of two points will be added in all multi-pot and multi vase classes. In the event of a tie for a Trophy awarded for points, the award will be given to the exhibitor with the highest number of first prizes or in the event of a tie the highest number second prizes.

11.  Any protest must be in writing to the Show Secretary by 3pm on the day of the show, if in the afternoon, or by 9pm for an evening show.The committee’s decision will be final.

12.  Cups and Trophies remain the property of the Society unless otherwise stated and must be returned in a clean condition.

13.  Exhibitors must be persons who do not grow or produce that type of exhibit in connection with trade or business.

14.  The Royal Horticultural Society’s BANKSIAN MEDAL is offered in open competition to the exhibitor gaining most points in the Fuchsia & Pelargonium Show. In the event of a tie the winner will be the exhibitor with the higher number of first &/or second prizes. Winners of the medal in the previous two years are ineligible for the award.              Winner - 2017 - RS Clarke  2018 - R Birt   2019 - E Gray

15.  THE ARTHUR JACOB AWARD – open to all exhibitors.Awarded to the exhibitor gaining most points in floral classes in all shows.

16.  All baskets must be not more than 16” (40cm) in diameter and of open wire mesh construction. 

17.  Persons who win the Society’s novice cup are allowed to enter for a second time and if successful they are not allowed to enter again.
